inclusion.The Operating Engineer I/II is responsible for performing
independently, tasks of a skilled nature, necessary for the
operation, maintenance, repair, and remodeling of Center buildings,
grounds, and equipment. Must be proficient in mechanical, plumbing
and refrigeration skills and possess a class 3 boiler license or be
able to obtain one. Additionally, applicant should have working
knowledge in at least two of the following areas: mechanical,
electrical, welding, HVAC, building automation, steam and hot water
systems.ResponsibilitiesIndividual will be assigned primarily PM,
mechanical, work orders and be expected to complete them
independently. These responsibilities include estimating work both
in terms of time and material, liaison with customers, executing
the work, and completing all the required paperwork, Individual may
also be assigned to work with and/or train apprentices.Job Duties
include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Changes Filters, belts, bearings and bushings and must know how
to align and tension appropriately
- Must be able to use the control system to safely shut down air
handlers and other pieces of operating equipment.
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes,
bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units,
dishwashers, and water softeners, etc.
- Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing parts or fixtures as
needed, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
- Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect
malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with
supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or
repair machine.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or
repaired parts.
- Replace up to 150 hp motors and motor components
- Repair, replace, clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears,
and other parts of machinery.
- Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and
related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces
gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Repair and maintain physical structure of establishment.
- Open valves on equipment such as compressors, pumps, and
condensers to prepare system for operation and start equipment and
auxiliary machinery.
- Observe temperature, pressure and ampere readings for system
and equipment and adjust controls or override automatic controls to
obtain specified operation of equipment.
- Connect hose from supply tank to compressor to replace
coolant.
- Make periodic inspection of equipment and system to observe
operating condition and need for repair or adjustment.
- Adjust controls to isolate and clear broken lines for repair or
shuts down equipment.
- Repack pumps and compressors, clean condensers, and replace
worn or defective parts.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as grinder, drill, and
milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and
fixtures, and tools.
- Operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal
parts.QualificationsOE I: A skilled professional who generally has
over 5 years of experience in the operation, maintenance or repair
of one or more of the systems outlined above or the completion of
the apprentice program or trade school program.OE II: A skilled
professional who has 3-4 years of experience in boiler room
operations, equipment maintenance, construction, or similar trades
related to mechanical maintenance.
- Must have current Grade III City of Seattle Boiler Operator
License or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
- Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License
or ID.
- Physical skills necessary to climb, bend, stoop, lift and
perform tasks utilizing ladders and scaffolds, etc.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Dependable, on-time and proven good work habits.
- Good communications skills.
- Able to work a varied schedule including shift work.
- High School diploma or equivalent.A statement describing your

rate for this position is a flat rate of $47.77, which is inclusive
of a $7.75 Central Pension Fund diversion.OE II : The hourly
contracted rate for this position is a flat rate of $40.74 which is
inclusive of a $4.89 Central Pension Fund diversion.Position is
eligible for shift differentials, premiums for licenses, and other
wage premiums as governed by the collective bargaining
