System One is seeking to contract with a Mechanical System Design
Engineer who will be focused on the design of fluids handling and
process systems. The successful candidate will integrate and
coordinate with engineers working on interfacing systems. The
Mechanical System Design Engineer will work as part of a
high-performing team of engineers and scientists whose goal is to
advance our client's technology to its end state as a commercial
nuclear power reactor.
Responsibilities:
Design of nuclear and industrial process systems and sub-systems,
including the specification of requirements through detailed
design.
Participate in the creation of design documents for applicable
systems, including but not limited to System Design Descriptions,
Interface Control Documents, Specifications, Datasheets, P&IDs,
3D models, and system Interface Control Drawings (ICDs).
Develop design packages for systems, sub-systems, and equipment
designs including coordination and review of calculations, design
reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design
specifications.
Interface with other disciplines (such as thermal hydraulics,
instrumentation and controls, and structural) to identify and
develop the system requirements and design
Consider the effects of operating and environmental conditions,
such as thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, and heat
transfer, when designing the system of interest
Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards, such as
those from the Department of Energy (DOE) or Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (NRC), to mechanical and process system design.
Identify and implement the required design codes into the design of
systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
Interface with and support licensing activities associated with
Safety Analysis Reports.
Participate in supplier technical reviews and review of supplier
deliverables.
Verify that system design requirements have been met by
participating in design reviews, tests, inspections, audits, and
surveys.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited
university and 3+ years direct experience with proven mechanical
systems skills.
Demonstrated experience in the design of industrial mechanical
systems, structures, and equipment.
Experience in high temperature and multi-discipline integration
(highly desired).
Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear handling process
systems, or similar high-performance system or equipment design
(highly desired).
Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation
skills.
Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to work
independently with minimal direction.
Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives
and constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between
objectives.
Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a
multi-disciplinary approach.
Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such
as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 (highly desired).
The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and
integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to
foster teamwork.
Actual position starting level and title will be determined based
on assessment of qualifications.
